Disney Animated Countdown 40-31

Image
Welcome back to my countdown of all the Disney animated movies.  The last list that was posted was the section of the list for the films that were outright bad or just very...VERY boring (which made for a boring writing segment), this films have upgraded to "pretty ok and moving towards good." Exciting, isn't it?  Here are next batch of films from 40-31! 40. Lady and the Tramp Lady and the Tramp is...well... "We are problematic scene" I know as a kid I was very fond of Lady and the Tramp, and I think that is mostly due to the tone of the film.  Lady and the Tramp doesn't have a lot of high stakes to it and is just a nice simple love story between the two dogs.  Our main characters are quite likeable and the animation on the dogs is stellar.  The jealousy I feel towards the animators who were hired just to watch dogs all day is quite high.  Lady and the Tramp is just a film that you feel nice after watching.  The rat sequence is HORRIFYING. -Pict...

BMC (Big Monster Cinema): Gamera the Brave

Welcome to BMC: Big Monster Cinema!  This is a new little segment I am starting up on my blog so I can gush and spew information about one of my favorite subsets of genre film, giant monsters!  Im talking about everything from the big boys such as King Kong and Godzilla to some on the smaller scale. Tremors is a giant monster movie, fight me.  While the impulse is to start up this segment with a Godzilla film, I figured we should dip our feet into something that is a little more accessible to someone who is unfamiliar with giant monster/ Kaiju films and start with Gamera the Brave.                                                                                                  ...

Saint Maud

Christian beliefs against the power of some sort of satanic force is a trope that we have seen time after time in the horror genre.  It's one of the most prevalent themes. While we do get some films that explore the Christian belief taken toward an extreme devotion (the films The Mist and Carrie come to mind), I would be hard pressed to think of many films that treat the Christian faith as our driving force for the terror we are about to witness through the films run time as the film Saint Maud does.  That being said, at no time does the film present itself as a criticism of Christian faith or provide a negative commentary towards it.  The film, instead, is a deep psychological look into the life of a broken woman who takes her faith to far.  Saint Maud is writer/director Rose Glass and follows the titular character of Maud (played by the terrific Morfydd Clark), a nurse and recent convert into Christianity, as she begins the hospice care of an old professional dance...

Disney Animated Film Count Down 53-41

Over the course of the pandemic, I have been trying to find fun activities that we (Aryn and I) could do for fun in the comfort of a our own home.  The prime example of this is when we did a "31 days of Halloween" during the month of October.  We enjoyed that too much we began to brainstorm other movie challenges we could do over the course of a months during the pandemic.  Our first genius divergence from the "31 days of Halloween" was to do a DisneyCember, where we would watch the Disney animated films in order from release...we finished 3 months later.   Oh buddy, this was quite the journey.  I can't say that I hated the experience, but it did feel like a chore to get through all the films.  This is mostly because all the movies tend to follow the same themes and when you go through 53 films, you feel trapped and its hard to turn to watch something else without the looming thought of "ugh, we have more Disney films to watch."  I have decided to...
